In 2018 the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (EJNMMI) reached an impact factor (IF) of 7.704 in the index of the Journal Citation Reports for 2017.
Professor of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and former president of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine, Ignasi Carrió Gasset (Manresa, 1950), was Editor-in-Chief of the EJNMMI between 2004 and 2018. Under his editorship the EJNMMI became the top one in the field of dedicated diagnostic imaging journals with a gradual IF increase. For the editorial board of the TvNG this is an important reason to invite professor Carrió Gasset for a conversation focussed on the future of dedicated nuclear medicine and molecular imaging journals.
In this internet edition of the Tijdschrift voor Nucleaire Geneeskunde (TvNG) Professor Carrió Gasset comments on not only the transformation of the EJNMMI to an electronic journal and the principal causes to explain the advance of this journal in the last decades, but also emphasizes the added value of nuclear medicine giving a recommendation to national nuclear medicine journals like the TvNG. A last remark concerning the contribution of the Dutch player Frenkie de Jong to the current football team of Barcelona adds an extra flavour to the interview.
Ignasi Carrió was designated honorary member of the EANM at the recent European congress celebrated in Barcelona.
